My tutoring began in when I was employed with Nazareth Colleges' Partners for Learning program. This program worked with several schools in the Rochester, NY area to provide in school and after school tutoring and teaching assistance to children grades 6-12. I specialized at one school, Hope Hall in Gates, NY, where I worked with students who had a variety of learning challenges. I assisted students with subjects such as: English, Spanish, French, math, language arts, science and social studies. I worked with Partners for Learning for two years from 2005-2006 while I was finishing my undergraduate degree. I have also been employed as a substitute teacher in my hometown of Rochester, NY.

According to me teaching is the process of imparting knowledge or skills. It’s about not only motivating students to learn, but teaching them how to learn, and doing so in a manner that is relevant, meaningful, and memorable. I believe that knowledge should not be imparted to students in a way that is stressful. Rather students should be helped to understand the world from their own phenomenological vantage points and day to day experience. I believe in a more visual aspect in learning and teaching. "Hands on" as much as possible. For example, it's easier to learn looking at a mesquite tree than reading about it or looking at a picture of the tree. I try to make learning fun and thrill to the discovery of knowledge. A lot of biology however, is more of a "rote memorization" type of learning. This tends to bore some so I try to make it more real and exciting.
Most of my experience is working as a Wildlife Biologist for the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Reclamation (1973-2006). I worked as a teaching Assistant for Dr. Bender at ASU (1972). I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Science from Northwest Nazarene College (University)and a Master of Science in Zoology from Arizona State University.

Each individual is different. Therefore, you have to know the person first in order to apply a teaching style. Age, gender, and subject matter are some elements that influence how a person learns. Some people learn visually, some people learn by practicing, some people don't want to learn. My style varies according to the individual and what he or she likes or dislikes.
