I have helped tutor AVID high school students when I was a senior at Cherry Creek High School. I enjoy helping the kids learn and believe that being a tutor would pay it forward since I had so much help from tutors. I always helped my friends out because I was in higher level classes than them some of the times. I also worked with tutors and know how much of a difference they can make. I'm currently studying at CSU and still work with friends on homework if they need help.

For me, teaching isn't about pounding new material into their head, it's about helping them understand the material they're given and actually having fun learning. That's why my teaching style is all about fun and retention.
I have many volunteer hours stacked up working with groups of children, but I would love to teach on a more personal basis to build my one-on-one skills. I'm currently an education major at Colorado State University, and while music is my emphasis, I was always very studious in school and am well-versed in other subjects. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved helping others. In college I tutored 2 seperate high school students in chemistry and one in algebra, for a total of about 2 yrs experience. In college I also participated in "Students teaching AIDS to Students". I volunteered at a preschool in Costa Rica where I taught sanitation and health. I have traveled to Africa multiple times to volunteer and conduct research. I am very experienced in the fields of science and math and love passing this knowledge on to others. I plan on using my PhD to educate students in Africa about health and science
I believe the most effective way to learn is through self discovery of the concepts. This should be done in a very positive environment in which the student is encouraged and motivated to fully understand the material. I don't believe in memorization, but understanding.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching children takes patience and creativity. Each child is different in their attention span and interests. Making each subject important and interesting is one place to start. It is crucial to never let a child give up, and not to give up on them yourself. My goal in teaching is to determine which way the child learns, for example a visual learning may need to draw out spelling words, where an audible learner needs to recite them. I love to find new ways to relate what they are learning with life outside of school and in this way show them how important the subject is. I do believe that each child can learn, but sometimes not understanding a subject is like building a wall on a road.
