I am a recent honors graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in civil and environmental engineering. This course of academic study exposed me to a broad range of upper-level mathematics, physics, and chemistry. During my college career I volunteered with a mentoring program known as Big Brother/ Big Sister to tutor elementary school students, and I also privately tutored fellow college students in Calculus I.

I taught Physics, Algebra and Trigonometry for a local high school. From that point, the bulk of my career was as an engineer, nuclear, mechanical and electrical. I have a number of years in Project Management. I also have four years of experience teaching at a Technical College, where taught College Math, Computer Science and Accounting.

I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn new things. When you teach a kid something and they finally get it, the sight of their face lighting up is priceless. I believe that one should teach using a variety of methods because all kids do not learn the same way and each individual method shows something new each time. If the original problem is too complicated for the student to understand, I usually first break it down into several easier problems and then guide the student through the thinking process.
