As a student who graduated with honors from Sonoma State University in December of 2009, I was driven to achieve the highest level of excellence in education. I have earned my BA in Biology, and have taken 21 units of Chemistry, and 12 units of Math. I have also gained many hours of experience using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, while writing research papers, laboratory reports, and essays. As the school I taught at was private, the students were very competitive. I found my lectures and class activities reached 90% of the students. The remaining 10% were the students I especially loved to instruct. These students had difficulty learning the subject in a traditional fashion, so I was forced to explain the subject from a different angle. The individual attention I gave students before and after class proved to be invaluable. My teaching style would be that of Guided Discovery. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future. I implement this style by asking leading questions, giving examples, making analagies and asking the student what they think or ask them to explain how they came upon a certain conclusion.
