My name is Briana and my college major is Elementary Education with endorsements in ESOL and Reading. At the University of West Florida I have maintained a 3.6 GPA and have been on the Dean’s List and the President’s List. This is an important achievement. However, I do not take this to be my greatest asset. It is my belief that my love for children and desire to see them learn, even as I increase my knowledge, is of greater value. During my college career I have made myself available to volunteer outside the classroom. I have worked in schools, science fairs, church schools, and other organizations. In participating in these events I have learned from others by observing and being a part of the educational experience. It is not a duty, but an opportunity.

I believe that there are 3 types of learners: 1.Oral : learn by hearing 2.Visual : learn by seeing 3.Kinesthetic: learn by hearing, seeing and using their hands The Oral learner is a “teacher’s pet” because they are the students that will listen in class, barely take notes and do quite well in school. The Visual learner must “look on” as a teacher reads, not taking notes but to follow along in a book. The Kinesthetic learner usually has to listen, take notes, read along but will also tap their foot or a pencil. These types of “distractions” actually help a kinesthetic learner.
I have a degree in Early Childhool however, I have taught Biology for 9th and 10th graders in a private school. My husband, being prior military kept us moving so I have been a substitute for many years. I also taught my son until the 4th grade and he is now attending private school.

A Little Bit About Me...

I will be graduating in less than a week with a bachelor's degree in General Biology from Auburn University at Montgomery. Though my interest lies mostly in the zoology and conservation fields, unfortunately AUM does not offer these as specific fields of study. During my studies I acted as a private tutor for a senior in high school struggling with geometry and some algebra. I consider this quite a rewarding experience which only strengthened my desire to teach high school sciences, specifically conservation studies and human anatomy later in life.
I strive to bring my personal level of enthusiasm into the classroom and encourage students to find enjoyment in learning. Several subjects interest me in such a way that I truly love to learn more about them each day. I would love to show even a single student that studying is more than simply memorizing facts to pass a class but that i ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My goals as a teacher revolve around sharpening the critical thinking and analytical skills of students, challenging them to reach their full potential, while simultaneously encouraging them and providing a safe, caring environment that is conducive to learning. I believe that school should not be to teach students to regurgitate information, but to learn to think and problem solve in various situations, to learn how to network and use resources, to understand and utilize proper etiquette and appropriate situational behavior. Teaching is developing the whole person, meaning mind and character, to become a productive individual in society that is prepared to meet and deal with life’s challenges.

In my experience teaching a wide range of ages and children from very different backgrounds, I have seen how all students can thrive in an academic setting with the right instructional strategy. All students learn differently; some need their assignments read aloud, while others prefer to read alone. Some learn better by hearing what is being taught, while others prefer to learn with visual aides. Some thrive on group and peer assignments, while others prefer to work alone or one-on-one with the teacher. My job is to find how your student will grasp what is being taught in the most effective manner of teaching.
I did not realize I wanted to become a teacher until after I took a long-term substitute job while looking for employment. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and decided to further my education so that I could continue to teach. My undergraduate degree is in Mass Comm ... read more
