I have been working as a Chess tutor at the company Chess Wizards in Chicago, Illinois for about five months now. I know how to play competitively and can easily teach the game to children. At this job, I teach classes from about ten to twenty students ranging from the ages of Kindergarten to fifth grade.
I prefer to have an open environment where everyone can learn at the same time and same pace. Getting the kids involved into the work makes it more fun for everyone.

My comments on tutoring Chess : Very fun intellectual mind game.

I started tutoring in middle school in the field of math, science and history. When I was in High School I tutored kids for the clubs I was in such as the Spanish Honors Society, Math Club, National Honors Society, and California Scholarship Federation. On top of tutoring kids at my high school I would tutor elementary kids that were taking the high school placement exam on weekends at my high school. Now that I am in college I work in teams of 4 or 5 to help each other learn the engineering material.
I can teach either one to one or multiple kids. I have dealt with both cases and I when I am dealing with multiple kids I try to pair them up by their struggles so that they can overcome the obstacle together. I try to focus on what my pupil are struggling on and go over that with more detail then that of the stuff they already know. I teach the material at a pace that is right for ev ... read more

I have always enjoyed working with children and helping to direct paths thru life. I get along with children very well and am very patient. Children like adults have their strong subjects and weak ones and my style is try to find the strong points of children. It is important at what point a student lost their way, go back and help them get past that point. I want to make a difference in this small amount of time I have on earth.
I received my BS degree in Communications in 1974 and passed my CBEST test in December, 2008. I have been tutoring for over 6 months assisting a student rewriting her term paper. I have also tutored my grandson and younger daughter in high school and college math. I decided to enter tutoring and teaching after realizing how important education is while using my communications ability.

Well since I graduated from uni, I always wanted to strive for success and do the best I can at everything I do. I earned a Bacculerate degree in History which enabled me to gain a strong and competent knowledge of the past. Most importantly, I believe learning foreign languages at a local college strongly augmented my desire to learn and to realise my dedication for teaching. I'm now learning Russian and French at an intermediate level and ready to assist any beginner/novice students who are introduced to these modules. In addition, I'm also a native Chinese Mandarin speaker. Hence, I know I have the capability to strive for success through teaching and learning.
I love to work and teach children everything I know in a particular subject. I think all children can learn but each in different ways. For me, I'm dedicated to not only help them to learn but also promote my own teaching ... read more

Since graduating with a bachelors degree in mathematics, I have done a lot of work in the tutoring field. I have worked for two years for Sylvan Learning Center, working in an array of fields, including all areas of mathematics, English, SAT prep, and study skills. I have also worked for Islip Tutoring Services for a year, working with No Child Left Behind to help underprivileged students get extra help in the areas of math, English, and science. I have also done private tutoring for the last three years, in all areas of mathematics.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching, especially in a tutoring setting. Being able to work with a student in an environment where I can give them all of my attention really allows me to make a huge impact on them. I believe that in order for a student to learn, the student must gain confidence that he or she CAN learn. I am a very kind and helpful person, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in a life long pursuit of knowledge; a belief I have tried to impart to everyone I come in contact with. I believe in teaching my students HOW to think, not WHAT to think. Our future depends on our creating a generation that is capable forming their own opinions and arguments; a generation capable of wrestling with tough questions and arriving at well thought out conclusions. I would love to claim that I came up with philosophy on my own; but I must admit, it is a philosophy I adopted from two of the most influential educators in my life, my parents.
I can promise you three things if hired; I will never be late, I will never no show, and I will be the hardest worker you have ever employed. I strive to be a person of integrity, and I am nothing if not loyal. Though I have not worked as professional tutor, I have time and again found myself instructing and assisting fell ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Graduating from an engineering school gave me the skills of working hard and doing the very best in obtaining personal goals. I have a BS degree in Computer Engineering, which includes a minor in verbal communications. This means I have a deep background in mathematics and analytical concepts, plus, I have comprehensive understanding of grammatical and writing skills due to writing essays for my communication classes and lab reports for my engineering classes. I learn along the way that helping others achieve similar goals is a fulfilling experience.
I believe in helping others through mentoring and tutoring. It is a fulfilling experience seeing children achieve their goals and overcoming their difficulties and striving to be a better student.
