A Little Bit About Me...

Since 2001, I have had the opportunity to work with students of all ages and abilities. In particular, I have gained significant experience working with students who benefit from alternative learning strategies due to diverse learning styles, developmental issues, or learning disabilities. I find it to be very rewarding to develop new strategies to help students with differing learning styles or abilities master a topic or improve upon their reading abilities. Most importantly, I enjoy the opportunity to help all students reach their potential in a variety of subjects to include: all levels of Biology; Geology; Earth Sciences; Statistics; Elementary Science, Math, and Reading; Collegiate Writing Skills; and Research Methodologies.

My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : My nephew has ADHD and I also have ADD, so I know how to work with those type of children.

I have not tutored as an actual job ever, though I have done many other things that would be considered tutoring. I help my 12 year old nephew with his homework and have done so for about a year. I taught Sunday School at church for two years. My friends and other students have always come to me for help with essays and other English related assignments. Whether it be general proofreading, paragraph writing, paragraph flow, etc, that is the type of help I gave. I also have several Korean friends at college who are learning English as their second language, and one Finnish friend who learned English as her fifth language. I explain the basics to them, and help them learn English. I've learned that I do well in this field, and would like to continue with a paying job.

Let the young teach the young

Even though I am young, I do know how to convey teaching skills with the "up-to-date" mind set of today's generation. The main experience I have is helping fellow school mates and family with the problems they are having with school work. I did finish high school with a diploma. I have been to many schools and have had many teachers. I have been able to learn many techniques of solving a single problem.
I am fun and relaxed, but know how to get down to the point. I make my teaching easy to understand.

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked at Moorpark College as an ESL and Writing Tutor, helping students discover ways to identify and clarify ideas, refine a topic, outline ideas, and develop the skills needed to work independently. I have my BA from Scripps College in both English and History. I have significant experience tutoring within the humanities, but also German, math and the sciences. I started college as a Biology major, so I have a firm grounding in mathematics and the sciences, which I have bolstered to prepare for graduate school in Architecture. I was a Jumpstart (AmeriCorps) team leader, which involved implementing early childhood curriculum and promoting skill building for at-risk preschool children.
I have helped children prepare for preschool through games and activities, and community college students brainstorm ideas for transfer essays. I am very organized, responsible and trustworthy. I ... read more

I believe that it is the teacher's job to discover the true learning style of their students and when we do it is like unlocking a treasure chest of gold, so to speak. I like to differentiate my instruction so that all students can access the curriculum and I keep track of my performance through regular assessments and using the RTI (Response to Intervention) process. I have recently retired from the U.S. Army as a medic. During my service, I was frequently responsible for both formal and informal teaching and training. I learned to easily adapt to various learning styles, learning barriers, and researching subjects. While still in the service, I utilized my lunch breaks and evenings to further my education and emerged with my AA and completed Nurse Assistant training while still serving and my BS only one year later; two months after retiring. Currently, I am working on my MS in Health Promotion with a certificate in Disaster in Public Health. I am capable of producing a lesson and effectively teaching any subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always worked with children, from baby sitting to working in a licensed day care facility. I have helped children with their homework and love the challenges early childhood creates. With my experience working with children I have learned patience and valuable listening skills. I earned by Bachelors degree in history which taught me how to sit and pay attention to detail.
Teaching to me is one of the greatest pleasures I have. Helping children learn and making learning fun is something I strive for. I understand that all children are different and teaching styles need to be just as different. I like to find different ways for children to like and understand a problem that was once difficult. I listen and like the children to explain to me their difficulties and come up with a solution together to make learning fun.
