A Little Bit About Me...

My background is in International Montessori Education , as well as psychology. I taught, tutored and trained teachers for 20+ years and founded a successful private school, though tutoring is my favorite part of teaching. I love learning and applying new formats, as well as using the many skills I have developed over time. My experience in teaching reading is extensive, probably my greatest strength, and I also tutored all ages and in the areas of writing, study skills,critical thinking,and perceptual skills.

I am very adaptive. I accept challenges warmly. I love working with children; I teach at my church at the elementary level weekly. I also enjoy working with adults in a non-threatening way. I am a patient person and know that learning can be fun if presenting correctly.
I have recently retired from the U.S. Army as a medic. During my service, I was frequently responsible for both formal and informal teaching and training. I learned to easily adapt to various learning styles, learning barriers, and researching subjects. I am a holistic teacher who likes for students to experience the subject. For example I would have student immerse themselves into the subject of history and complete a project and present it to the other students. It was really successful and had students waiting all year.
When working towards my teaching certification I was in many classrooms from Kindergarten to 12th Grade in Pueblo School District 60. After graduation I applied and got a teaching job and I taught at Skyview Middle School in District 49 for 4 years teaching Ancient Civilizations. Before that I was a substitute in District 8, 2, 3, 60, 48 all southern Colorado school districts.
