I have over ten years of classroom experience as a professional educator in a variety of settings including the states of Arizona, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C., as well as a two-year stint at an American school for Egyptian students in Cairo, Egypt (Science teacher). Experienced math tutor

I encourage questions and believe in a lot of practice.
I believe that all students can learn with a patient tutor. Many of my students find math frustrating but I have the ability to break all concepts down to the most basic elements and build from there. I also encourage questions and being comfortable asking questions to facilitate the learning experience. I have tutored math and history for years at all levels from middle school through college. I love to teach. I have experience with 5-50 years old and, if pressed, could not name a favorite group. I believe that everyone can learn; some of us just process information in different ways. While a student I acted as a teacher's assistant teaching Argumentation and Debate for one semester, and tutored Basic Statistics for one semester. As an accounting professional I trained new employees in Accounting, both in classroom and individual environments. While this experience was on an "as needed" basis, since I have worked as a Controller for over twenty-five years I believe I have at least three years of accumulated experience teaching accounting.

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I do not have a degree in Education, I have years of experience as a teaching assistant, teacher, tutor and curriculum designer. My experience mostly focuses on helping students improve their writing skills, but I also work with students with their reading comprehension since they go hand in hand. I have taught composition at the community college level which enables me to help students with papers at all levels from basic exposition to research methodology and citation format.
I enjoy working with young people and making an impact on their academic success. I find that teaching works best if you tailor the material to your audience - i.e. you don't want to lose them OR bore them. Use what they know as a foundation to build on to teach new concepts. If material is difficult or unfamiliar to your class it's important to be prepared in advance with several approaches to get the material across. Review material periodically to reinforce confidence in the students and always make sure they have a firm grasp on material before moving on.

When I graduated from High School and went into the job market I continued to be interested in working with children. This interest lead me to taking psychology and education classes from various colleges over the years and ultimately obtaining a B.I.S degree from A.S.U. In addition, I have worked in the field of education for over the last 12 years and I obtained an Elementary Montessori Teachers certification.
