Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions. I feel it is important for the learner to understand that there is a reason for making the effort to learn each subject. My teaching style is traditional but creative; I believe in learning the basics first. Once the basics are mastered, then the student can move on to the more creative lessons. I also like variety in my lessons because I like to keep my students interested in what I am teaching. Through pre-testing, we can learn where the child needs to start instruction and to look for gaps in learning that often cause confusion interfering with their ability to learn a particular concept. If I were to sum my "style" of teaching up, it would be "patience with determination". Perhaps my best achievment is with my wife who recently graduated from A-B Tech. Kate has always had a block toward anything mathematic. She had one course between her and graduation, college algebra! The bottom line here is that I patiently stuck through this course treatment with her to a successful completion, she completed the course and graduated with a well earned "C" or a 78%.
