I have a great desire to pass the knowledge I was so fortunate to receive from my teachers and mentors, to others so that they may learn how to make better decisions in their own lives. I believe the role of a teacher (tutor) is to motivate students to want to learn. From my own experience I believe students learn the best when they are motivated to learn by seeing the value and importance of the information presented to them. Everyone does not learn the same way, so I incorporate various learning styles until the student finally understands the concept being taught, which includes real world situations, visual, tactile and auditory methods in my teaching. Graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead with a degree in accounting, and a strong background of math and businesses courses has given me an excellent background in math. I also took various english and writing composition classes which has provided me with excellent communication skills. I have work for various customer service companies which has brought out my natural strength of handling human relationships. Which could prove beneficial when interacting with customers.

I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. I know that the content knowledge is an essential ingredient for a tutor; however, to be truly effective, i believe a tutor must combine content knowledge with empathy, honesty and humor. With students, I help to make them better writers by helping answer questions, presenting questions, working through the brainstorming and paper-writing process, and helping with formatting.
