A Little Bit About Me...

As stated above I enjoy working with children of all ages, I have made a difference in their lives as well as them making a difference in my life. I love the many challenges that teaching brings, and believe its a very good experience to discover. I like to use my learning structure to assist in tutoring and making a difference in children to better their education and future.
As a graduate I have done tutoring to enhance my credibility to teach possibly in the future with my major in criminal justice. I'm currently enrolled for my Masters in criminal justice and criminology, and I plan to futher my education to teach within that field. All students, regardless of race, gender, learning disability, socioeconomic status, and cultural group, are capable of learning, especially if they have a good teacher. As an educator, I believe that I must be willing to step outside the norm to meet the diverse needs of students, in order to effectively reach them. This implies that I try a variety of approaches. Good teaching involves starting at the child’s level. Teaching that is too confusing, or not challenging enough, will only be a disservice. Simply getting to know the students prior to teaching is a start. I believe that every child has a right to learn. I believe that, no matter what kind of problem or learning disability that student has, that he/she deserves to learn. It is the responsibility, not only of the teacher, but the parents, grandparents, siblings and community to help children receive the best education that they can. I believe that all children learn differently. Some learn through doing; some through listening; others are a combination. I teach to each child in the way that best helps them to learn.
While completing my masters in Special Education, I have learned creative ways to help children with special needs that I work with. I have designed and coordinated a Resource Center to help students with special needs learn and achieve at their level. I have also designed and implemented a school for children with special needs.

I have been involved with youth since completing Bible College in 1978. I have two grown children who both completed college (my daughter cum laud in chem; University of Kentucky).
