A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught middle school students reading, English, and mathematics for 10 years. I earned my bachelor's in Elementary Education from Utah State with an emphasis in mathematics. As a middle school teacher, I have found that one of the main reasons students struggle is that they have reading deficits. This prompted me to pursue a Master’s degree in Literacy. I have tutoring experience in mathematics and reading. I am also a musician. I play the violin and sing as a mezzo-soprano. I have musical experience with college and community symphonies and choirs.
I enjoy working with students who are elementary aged up through college aged. I particularly love working with middle school students. I have the ability to work with diverse students of all ages and levels. Whether the student is 15 or 50, I can help the him/her learn and feel comfortable around me. I love interacting with children and teaching them to the best of my ability. I know that each child is unique and you have to truly understand the child and the stresses and concerns they have with learning, before you can teach them. I am very patient, kind,and understanding. I want the child to know that he or she is capable of learning anything and will allow them to reach that potential. I believe in hands on learning and being active. This way the child can remember what they learned more easily, but I am willing to teach in any way that will suite my student.
