A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style depends upon the learning style of the student. For example, if the student is a visual learner then the student is taught using pictures, books, charts, etc. Or if the student is an auditory learner then the student is taught orally with pictures, books, charts used as supports. As a special needs teacher I individualized lessons for students.
I have 27 years of special needs teaching experience. I have taught students in all grade levels. I taught at the elementary level (K-6th) for 14 years; at the junior high level (7th-8th) for 3 years and at the high school level (9th-12th) for 10 years. My strength is teaching basic skills (reading and math) and organizational/study skills and helping students to realize their individual potential.

I believe in demonstrating how to do the work and then guiding the children as they apply what has been demonstrated. The best way to learn is by doing under supervised guidance. Once the children learn to apply the proper steps to accomplish the task at hand, the feeling of accomplishment drives them to continue on their own.

It was a drive within my nature or inner self to pursue a course in Child Development and Family Relations and a minor in Psychology as I attended college at Ricks College and Brigham Young University. My direction following those events led me to teach as an assistant teacher and then as a classroom teacher at a private school working with the young children in Preschool and Kindergarten. I tutored first graders in some of their basic skills such as reading and math. I was a substitute teacher and teacher's aide in the Nye County School District, Pahrump, NV for one school year. I worked in all grades K-12, on an "on-call" basis. I also worked in the after-school program called "SAFE". My duties included working one-on-one with "challenged" students; physically, emotionally, and mentally. Worked with the Resource teacher in the Victor Elementary School, District #401, Driggs, Idaho. Reading Tutor to students in Grades 2nd and 4th. During the completion of my BMA, I accepted a tutoring position and tutored all students (including disabled students) for two years. I eventually moved on to substituting for professors and even gained an assistant to the professor position, which included developing and teaching lesson plans.
