My teaching style is straight and to the point. My goal is to make the kids understand that the only thing holding them back is themselves. Hard work and a desire to learn will win every time. I LOVE the moment when the kids "get it", when they become confident in learning. When I entered college I was immediately drawn to tutor my peers as needed. I worked with the single mom's program at IVC and also did job coaching for the City of Long Beach Disabled program. Once I graduated from college I had the opportunity to join the Boys & Girls Clubs, specifically designing educational and technology programs. I enjoyed tutoring about 50 youth a day. As a result some parents requested that I run a special off hours program at their middle school to tutor the ADHD kids. Since my elementary education, I always believed in the importance of the education in one's life. My goal was and still is to learn as much as possible and gain an understanding in all areas: foreign languages, science, history, math, etc. I have earned BS in Criminology with option in Victimology, Certificate in Victim Services, and Certificate in Paralegal Program. I was always an excellent student, and I was volunteering in helping with the studying and tutoring my family members and my classmates. I have learned extensive grammatical skills in English, Spanish, German, and Croatian. Although I'm semi-fluent (as far as communication)in Spanish and German, I can read and write as if I were a native speaker of those languages. I love helping students achieve academic success. I am a very down to earth person especially when it comes to kids. I always try to lighten up the mood and make learning things interesting and fun. I don't like to dismiss when I see a child having trouble in something. Every person has a different way of learning, I try to cater to each of their needs. I have tutored children in reading last summer. It was one of the most gratifying things I have done. I worked with English as second language children ranging from ages 5 to 13. We used a lesson plan and several activities to help children in achieving their reading level goals. Also, in my undergrad experience, I excelled in writing and was very good with meeting deadlines.
