I have tutored slightly at my present community college. I tutored math. I have my Associates of Arts degree in Psychology and am currently in the process of obtaining my Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Education. I plan to teach Psychology in the future.
I love working with all types of people, as helping people is a great passion of mine. I find it effective to teach by relating to something that the person I am teaching really enjoys. For example if they love basketball, I may try to relate the subject to it, to make it easier to learn. I have a lot of patience and usually have no problem helping someone. I enjoy working with children and adults and helping them discover the resources they have within them. My job as a teacher is to put myself out of work by providing my students with all the tools they need to become proficient, motivated self-learners. I believe we learn best by doing. I try to help my students reach for the information they need to solve a problem by pointing them to what they already know to begin tackling the problem. I do not have a particular style of teaching. I prefer to talk to the individual I am tutoring and together discover the best way to teach them the subject material. I believe that everyone learns information at a different pace and that some information is easier to process than other information. I believe that individuals should be comfortable while learning in order for them to actually learn. I would never force someone to learn "my way" and would work with them on developing a way that works for both of us. I would also focus on teaching proper study habits so the individuals can apply them and possibly not need a tutor in the future.
