I received my Ph.D. in Social Gerontology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2009. During my graduate training, and in the year following, I worked for Scripps Gerontology Center as a researcher. I completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Carolina Program for Health and Aging Research (CPHAR) at the Institute on Aging at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in August, 2012. My expertise centers on the factors that shape active engagement in later life, broadly encompassing two areas: (1) older adults’ capacity to be active; and (2) the patterns and outcomes of active engagement behaviors. The goal of my research is to identify ways to increase older adults’ abilities and opportunities to participate in society, especially with regard to extending capacity to actively engage during later life.
