I have found that the best way to teach students is to have them do, not listen. Most students at any level are very unmotivated to learn if someone is lecturing at them or working at a pace that is above what they are able to accomplish. I tailor my lessons to the students needs and provide ample opportunities for practice, revision, and remediation when necessary.
