Organic Chemistry is one of my top subjects! One of the best breaks from lab work in graduate school was teaching and tutoring! I have taught as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for three years in organic chemistry (6 semesters), teaching both in the lab and in the class. During this time, I also tutored for both Organic Chemistry I and II on the side (class or lab). I also have four years of actual organic chemistry research under my belt!

I am animated and like to use analogies and humor so the students can recall concepts we've covered. Having spent hours upon hours in the organic chemistry student help room at Ohio State, I know all the problems students normally run into. I firmly believe in a visual style of learning, which pairs well with the visual subject matter of organic chemistry.
While I initially went to graduate school to become a research scientist, my focus shifted to teaching after I found out I enjoyed it so much! As a Mad Scientist, I learned how to make learning science fun. I like to spend a session with my students learning their background and their learning style. My students have always appreciated my ability to look at problems and subjects from different angles. I like to use every day metaphors for teaching math problems and also try to teach students how to use a "process of elimination" style. For example, it is easier to identify whether or not an object is a cell phone by picking out one trait that a cell phone has and determining if the object has that trait rather than describing all the traits of the object and then determining if it is a cell phone.
