A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from college with certification to teach grades 1-12. Do to the job market at that time, I was unable to get a full time teaching job. I substituted and then tutored for 2 years. I then worked various jobs working with the public. Although much of work experience is not in the teaching field, I have worked with people in many ways to reach their full potential and can relate to them on a level that they will comprehend.
I believe in using a multi- modality approach to teaching. The more senses involved, the more likely one will remember. I also believe in trying to make material needed to learn to seem approachable or pertinent in their lives.(No matter the age) Anyone can learn if it is presented in a way that makes it exciting and fun. Biology is a subject that unfortunately can get pretty dense and requires an amount of memorization. However, it is a subject that builds upon itself, so if you understand the big picture of a given topic in biology, it’s easier to expand from there. Thus, I prefer to start with the big picture first, then build from there. When possible, I like to use real-world examples so the student can see the biology principles they’re learning at work. While meeting with a student, I like to assist the student in developing their answers, not just giving them answers though sometimes that’s necessary. When a question is answered wrongly, I explain what is wrong with that statement and suggest what a correct response could be.

The first thing that I like to do as a teacher is tell my students why I chose my profession. I think a little insight as to who I am, lets my students know how passionate I am about my job.
