I have wanted to work with kids all my life. I love the way that they learn and think, and how different it is from adults. I studied Biology at Warren Wilson College in hopes of becoming a high school biology teacher. While at college, I did over one hundred hours of service tutoring and mentoring high school and middle school students in Buncombe County. Since graduating in 2009, I decided to take a break from school, and figure out where I wanted to go in life. I have been working at a local after school for elementary aged kids. Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions. I feel it is important for the learner to understand that there is a reason for making the effort to learn each subject. In math, I like to assign the numbers and equations to subjects the learner likes, such as pizza, sports or music, for example.
