Personalized learning coach
This fall, I begin my twentieth year as a teacher. I'm still teaching because I'm still curious myself about the world around us, and sharing that passion, curiosity, and drive to know is part of my classroom every day. Showing learners the path to success is not just my vocation--it's an avocation. I've taught at high schools in Texas and Virginia, and have worked with students of all abilities: remediation and review classes, general, academic, honors, advanced placement, and advanced placement for gifted students. The courses I've taught include ESL English language, and reading, science, social studies, and math for ESL; Earth Science; Sat Verbal and SAT Writing; high school English for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades; AP Language and Composition; AP Literature and Composition; Creative Writing; Practical Writing; and, Science Fiction. As a graduate of a small, liberal arts, women's college, I have grown a strong passion for tutoring and helping others. I am currently studying to obtain a Master's in Public Health in order to ultimately educate the public about various health disparities. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have tutored in the subjects of English, Biology, Genetics, Chemistry and other various subjects. I have also helped grade and edit student papers.
I love teaching and working with others. I follow the motto that "practice makes perfect", and enjoy running through various exercises in order to make sure that the concept is learned. I enjoy helping others and understand that learning happens at one's own pace.

I am the first college graduate in my family. In the last 18 years, I earned an Associate's Degree and a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics with a minor in Spanish. During my studies in Linguistics, I concentrated on language acquisition, phonology, and grammar and syntax. In 2010, I earned a Master's in Education with a concentration in teaching ESL. My degree in Education has allowed me to research various methods in teaching and how to best convey information to my students. I have taught K-12 ESL, Restaurant ESL, ESL for office jobs, ESL for medical jobs. I also teach Intermediate and Advanced Reading/Writing, which takes students from a basic paragraph to writing various forms of essays.
I believe in holistic education, one that connects the student to the world around him, using sight, touch, and sound. Research shows that multiple forms of input create greater pathways for le ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In 12 years as a high school teaching assistant, I have worked primarily with individual students in a wide range of subjects ranging from art, literature and history, to science and mathematics. This has provided me with interpersonal skills and a pool of knowledge that will be invaluable in a tutoring setting. Flexibility is a necessary skill in an educational system. As a teaching assistant, I must constantly stay well organized under changing conditions and perform a wide range of assignments with confidence. I have to communicate effectively with students who have a wide variety of interests and intellectual capabilities. My calm, soft-spoken nature has been an asset in working with an individual student without disturbing others.
With a Bachelor degree in Chemistry my educational background is very strong in Math and Science. I have spent the last fifteen years in the high s ... read more

I enjoy working with younger generations. I believe stimulating intelligence and creativity in younger people sometimes requires thinking outside the box. Following instructions and completing homework certainly is a priority, as that prepares for adulthood. Going beyond that creates a desire for knowledge, and instigates entrepreneurship at a younger stage by developing desire for leadership and hunger for success. I often tutor my granddaughter and together after completing her school assignment we explore ways to learn more then required.
I am a 60 year old Financial Manager, Creative Writer, Sales Executive with many years of Professional experience in several careers.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to help people understand what they are learning. My goal is to see the "lightbulb" flash on in their mind. I am always available to help your child find academic success. I am patient, very easy going, and considerate. My goal is to provide the best understanding and education possible for your child. I believe there are different ways in which a student will learn and I am a huge believer in the constructivist approach to learning. I strive to make a difference in all my students' lives and to create a better future and understanding for them.
As an online graduate at Kaplan University, I quickly became aware of my priorities. Students seeking help often emailed other classmates for assistance. I was often told there were very few students who responded to their emails; however, I was one of them. I earned my Associate degree through Allegany College of Maryland. I enjoyed ... read more
