My comments on tutoring Science : I have an expansive background in the field of science. I have two degrees in the field of the sciences. My first degree was animal science / pre-veterinary medicine. This required me to take a lot of scientific based courses. This includes biology based courses, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and physics. I have also taught general science at the the 7th and 8th grade levels.

I am a certified modeling teacher. Modeling is a "hands on" inquiry based style of teaching. I teach through allowing the students to deal with a given problem or scenario. I then use extensive amount of questioning to help the child to use their logic to solve the problem. This not only teaches the science material; but it also helps the student to learn how to think logically and to ask themselves the right questions. In other words, I don't just teach the material, I teach students how to think critically in a way that not only helps the student to learn the science, but also in other areas where critical thinking is needed to help understand and solve problems.

My comments on tutoring Science : Certified biology teacher with dual degrees in secondary education - biology and in animal science /. Pre-veterinary medicine. I have extensive background knowledge in a variety of biologically based classes such as genetics, anatomy & physiology, and ecology. Children are our heritage. Children have an innate desire to learn and I believe that with proper guidance, each child can be successful. I endeavor to determine what the child is interested in learning and build from there. I would characterize my teaching style as relationally oriented. I want the student to know that I care about him or her. I may not articulate as much, but I want the student to see that I am giving my time to serve their needs and not my own. Loosely speaking, I am also a proponent of multiple intelligences. The creative teacher can usually identify a way to relate material and content using a methodology that connects. My teaching style is based in facts. I philosophically reject radical post-modernity which posits that truth is a moving target. The student does not have the right to tell me that 1+1 = 3 because 1+1 = 2. Working through problems or lessons with the student by leading them through it, then working it with them side by side while explaining the details helps them achieve the accomplishment of learning without making them feel as if they were just instructed how to do it. Helping a student learn is more than just teaching them a lesson in math, science, or English; it’s about being someone that they can look up to as a role model, being someone that they can learn from in more than just an academic manner, and being someone who is there for them when they need something. A Little Bit About Me...

While I have no "official" teaching experience, I was frequently required to teach other members of the various teams I was on as well as people from other groups. This involved everything from tutorial presentations to a large and diverse group down to individual tutoring at the table in my office. Most people told me I was pretty good at it.
I first try to determine what level of knowledge my "students" had. Then, building on that, I would add layers until the group I was with understood the material. I would check with them frequently to make sure they understood what we just covered and I allowed questions at any time. If necessary, I would back up and try a different approach. My goal was to make sure they understood the material, whatever it took.
