I am an elementary school teacher in the Northern Virginia area and have been tutoring students for the past 2 years. I love my job and would not change it for the world. I love to work with children of all ages and genders. I have worked with children who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities as well as children of all ages, races, and genders. I attempt to make learning as fun and relevant to the child as possible as every child has varying levels of understanding and concentrations. I am extremely patient and can handle anything. I like to relate learning to childrens' lives (make it about basketball if the boy likes basketball, or about chocolate if the girl likes chocolate).

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe education is primarily about learning, not merely making a grade. As I applied this philosophy in college, I realized that where true learning occurs good grades follow. I completed a bachelor's in accounting summa cum laude in 2009. In addition to my major focus in finance and business, I completed a minor in History and took an extensive number of English courses as well. The broad liberal arts framework for my college curriculum taught me not only specific subjects, but how to learn and how others learn. I thoroughly enjoy helping students learn and watching students succeed. Complex subjects such as chemistry can be overwhelming to some students and I believe that the best way to teach these subjects is to give the student a firm understanding of the whole concept and then concentrate on the specifics. Finding a way to relate a concept to a student is key. I find that just having someone there to explain a concept in a way that is easy to understand can change a student's whole perspective on a particular subject or discipline.
I am a recent graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. I also competed in Division I athletics while pursuing my degree and I have enjoyed successes in both athletics and academics. For the past year I have been tutoring students in chemistry and mathematics.

I have been tutoring and working in classrooms for the last 5 years. I have worked with students from the Elementary level to college aged in all subject areas. As an Education major, I am familiar with the most recent methods of teaching. I feel very comfortable working in all subject areas with the exception of calculus and physics.
