This really depends on the subject, however, I like to do drills to keep basic skills sharp, and to learn new skills. Each student is different, and will need slightly adjusted methodology. I'm also very open to suggestion.
I am a few years out of high school, and I've taken several college classes. My AP knowledge spans almost every subject. I can help with almost all high school level classes and below. The various sciences are probably my best subjects, however my knowledge of Biology is fairly limited. I have tutored a few High School Freshman before in a program called "Senior Mentoring" I have also helped out a few family friends to get the grade to graduate.

PhD in Neuroscience, awarded in 1981 from University of California, School of Medicine, San Francisco. 30 years postdoctoral and Research Faculty appointments, research emphasis cellular and molecular neuroscience. Teaching in neuroscience courses to undergraduates, graduate students, medical students.
I have an unusual gift for explaining difficult concepts clearly. I like to bring up background (perhaps including chemistry or physics) to help understanding. I strive to help a student truly understand a concept and reason it out for themselves.

Teaching children has been a love of mine all my life. I had some difficulties learning certain things as a child, but through the use of tutoring I myself overcame this and went on to graduate college with one of the most difficult majors. I believe my own struggles with learning have instilled in me compassion, patience and a deeper understanding of how children think and what types of learning styles will best work.
