As an undergraduate, my focus for studies in English were both Critical Literary Analysis and Creative Writing. Analytical writing was stressed heavily, giving me the ability to interpret a text based on intrinsic value. The creative tract allowed me to experiment with my own abilities while keeping in mind strategies implemented by others I have read and studied. A requirement for all English majors at the university was to have intermediate skills in a foreign language. I have been involved with education for seven years now. I started by working as a paraprofessional in the special education program at Oyster River High School. This job was essentially daily tutoring of students within the school setting. I earned my BA in elementary education in l987 and was employed by the Woburn Public School system from 1988-1995. I taught grades one,two,four,and six with most of my experience being a first grade teacher. My specialty was teaching reading using a strong phonetic approach.
