A Little Bit About Me...

As an older recent graduate I have experienced how hard it can be to get a bachelor degree and raise a family at the same time. To be committed to both made me who I am today. I take great pride in the accomplishments I have succeeded in. I take just as much pride when tutoring children, their success is the most important accomplishment that can be achieved for all involved.
I currently am working as a teacher for summer school. I enjoy walking in the school everyday and working with the students, helping them find academic success while having fun at the same time. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the right learning experiences. I love working with children one on one or in a group. I have found most children learn by hands on. I love to do experiments with students or fun games to make their learning a little easier. I am patient, easy goi ... read more

I am an essentialist in philosophy, meaning I want the student(s) to learn material that is relevant to their experiences and that they can find useful to their lives. I want to engage them in their learning so that they can use many different learning styles. I want to show them that learning is something they can do for the rest of their lives and that they benefit from their own hard work. Everyone can learn, as long as they have the desire to learn and are guided by someone willing to help them learn.
Growing up in a family that did not value an education, I saw education as a way to make a better life for my self than gangs, drugs, and violence. I am the only one in my family to graduate from high school, then college. I firmly believe that education makes a person better by pursuing it. I achieved an Associates in Science, then two Bachelors of Science degrees. In addi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Michigan, where I studied English and Spanish. I chose a rigorous course schedule which allowed me to greatly develop my writing, editing, proofreading, and critical thinking skills. During my sophomore year of college, I began to facilitate creative writing workshops with youth and adults. This included editing and correcting for grammar as well as content, and providing useful feedback to my students. I continued with this work throughout college, and even after graduating. In addition, I taught an undergraduate course at the University of Michigan for the Program on Intergroup Relations. I was responsible planning and executing activities, teaching class sessions, and assigning and grading student projects, journals and exams for a class of 16 students.
I am extremely passionate about the education of our youth, ... read more

I enjoy working with all ages of people. I find it more beneficial and rewarding for the student and myself to work one on one in a tutoring situation. Focusing on the student or learner is very important. I have found that each person learns in a different way. I believe in assessing the learner/student to see how they might be a better learner and formulate lessons or guide the process that way. Being student centered is important. Every student can learn but it is the teachers responsibility to guide, teach, and implement the learning towards the student. Over the years that is what I have tried to focus on and practice with any age group I have worked with.
I have seven years teaching experience in various grades. These experiences have been in either a public or parochial school setting. While working in these schools I have worked as director of a whole school Christ ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had many experiences in education both during and after my college education. I have been put into many situations that have required using much of the curriculum content, classroom management, and lesson plan developing skills that I have acquired. I have a major in science, but I also have extensive mathematical skills due to the many math classes I have taken for my BS and while currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Accounting. I have had the opportunity to tutor students in math, science, reading, writing, and social studies.
I truly believe that as an educator you must establish a connection with your students. This not only builds a great relationship, but also helps to develop a real understanding of your students and develop the best way to teach them through differentiation and accomodations. I have learned over the years that you can't teach all students in ... read more
