A Little Bit About Me...

I was an outstanding high school athlete and was awarded an athletic scholarship to play basketball and more importantly get an education. I earned a bachelors degree in Biology and went back and earned a degree in Secondary Education. I have successfully taught and coached at all levels for 20 years. I gained the overall experiences of dealing with students in and out of the classroom. I earned a masters of Science degree and tutored math and science professionally at the collegiate level. A Little Bit About Me...

I will be graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in May 2010. I also have a minor in teaching and will continue in the teaching field through a Masters Degree program at UNH this coming fall. I have some experience tutoring students. In the spring of 2008 I was involved in a program called Seacoast Reads through the University of New Hampshire. In the program I tutored a second grade student in reading. Additionally I have been a teaching assistant in Environmental Chemistry at Dartmouth College and a teaching assistant in Plant Systematics at the University of New Hampshire.

At the University of Massachusetts I exceled in Math and Science classes. I orginally planned on being a Math major but chenged course after taking an Environmental policy class. As a law student, I have been committed to the public interest. I have focused my attenion on environmental issues. During law school, I worked weekends at the Save the Bay Exploration Center teaching childern and adults about marine life. I have earned two Bachelor's degrees, BA Biology/Chemistry with a concentration in Secondary Education and the second a BS in Medical Laboratory Science. Following graduation in 1987 with my first degree I taught High School Science for 4 years at 2 separate private schools – one in Wakefield, MA and the other in Columbus, OH. After two years of teaching, my desire was to enter the medical field whereby my employer provided tuition coverage for a degree in Medical Technology. A Little Bit About Me...

In the classroom I rely on traditional lecture, supplemented by Powerpoint presentations, animations, and lists and diagrams on the white board. I usually assign a research paper. In the last few semesters I've implemented through Blackboard some online testing, as well as tutorial "homework" quizzes, where the students get feedback directing them to coverage of particular sections of the text. I always try to make students aware of how the detailed, technical concepts of the moment fit into the "big picture," making references both to material previously covered and to material yet to come.
