My comments on tutoring Japanese : I have a strong academic background that has been expanded by more than a decade living and working in Japan. I have extensive use of Japanese in a business setting, including telephone appointment setting/sales, negotiations, and presentations. I also am proficient in 'street-level' Japanese due to my wide experience in the music/performance scene in the greater Tokyo area.

Having lived in Japan for more than a decade, I turned my experience teaching English to helping ex-patriots and students communicate more effectively in Japanese. During that time, I applied the language I had learned post-graduate in the real world working as the only Westerner at a Japanese company as well as in my personal live as a DJ in Tokyo nightclubs to provide my clients with the appropriate communication strategies and cultural background to be able to comfortably navigate Japanese society at any level. If students lack motivation or direction, it’s often because they are trying to perform an advanced task without basic skills. For example, many students know about the “five-paragraph essay” format, but don’t know how to organize the individual sentences. The first part of my philosophy focuses on providing students with these basic skills, as doing so prepares and makes them eager to face their assignments. My drive for knowledge enabled me to complete three degrees by the age of 22. I have high grades in all my classes as well as the extra science and writing classes I take on the side. I have a AAST in environmental science and technology, a BA in marine science and environmental studies, and will have my BS in one quarter. As well as being a full time student except for the summertime I tutor people in need of a little extra help. I have tutors ages from 6-25 and people with disabilities as well.
