I taught and tutored ESL two years before entering law school. I hae taught college classes as an adjunct and later FT professor at Penn College for 25 years. I currently serve as Career Outreach Coordinator for HACC-Lebanon Campus. I have tutored many students, particularly in areas such as writing essays. I also served as a reader for the SAT Writing section, so I am familiar with what they are seeking. I am very proficient in grammar and structure.
My teaching style with students of all ages is to facilitate their learning as opposed to simply feeding them what I feel is the best response. Students learning is maximized when they can take ownership of and pride in their work. I am very patient. Recognizing that all students learn differently, I seek to ascertain their learning styles and then adjust my tutoring style to that learning style.

What tools I use in the classroom really depends on the student's learning style and course material. Some individuals learn by performing tasks, while others learn by reading or hearing the material to be learned. I use a variety of methods depending on the course such as: PowerPoint, Internet, Lectures, Whiteboard, Student Presentations, and individuals within the community to discuss their current views on health care and their roles in Medical Billing/Coding.

It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material. My teaching style comes from 15 years of teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and being a Youth Group Leader as well. I have also been a server trainer at my current job at Cracker Barrel for 9 years. I am a very patient person and I treat others with respect.
