I spent a year overseas right out of high school tutoring my cousins. Later, after college, I volunteered to teach Spanish at a "homeschool" in Oregon for 3 months, then spent 6 months teaching Spanish then guitar at Lane Community College. I was assistant teacher for 2 years at a Christian preschool in Kennewick, WA. I have taught private lessons for 4 or 5 years altogether in the various places I have lived, teaching piano, guitar, voice and Spanish. Once I even taught English as a second language for a while. I enjoyed teaching basic music theory and how to play piano by ear to a blind student once. He made me proud at the recital. I like to tailor my curriculum to fit the particular student that I am working with. I have always enjoyed working with children of all ages. I taught dance for my high school years to younger children and I believe that has taught me a lot about teaching styles. I understand that not everyone learns at the same rate or in the same way. Students all have different styles of learning just as teachers have their different styles of teaching. I was not able to obtain a teaching job when I graduated from college so went to work in the field of business. My jobs included: private secretary to a County Judge, bookkeeper, loan processor for a savings and loan, receptionist, cashier, manager, assistant librarian and owner of an electric motor repair business. These experiences have given me a wide under-standing of the business world and of the different personalities of people. I have also been a substitute teacher in several different subjects.
