My comments on tutoring Government : A proper understanding of how our government is supposed to function is important. A citizen can not participate as fully or in an informed manner if they do not underestand their government

I have taught in a wide variety of educational settings. These settings include working in the public schools With Educable Mentally Challenged students,Multilingual classrooms and several self contained elementary classes.I have taught in educational cooperatives, Homeschooled my own children up to college and tutored. I have worked one on one with students who are Gifted , Gifted LD, mainstream, imigrant/ culturally distinct. I love seeing people soar like Eagles
I work best in one on one or small groups. I am capable with larger groups as well. My favorite approach is the Charlotte Mason approach. I have worked with a wide variety of Educational Philosophies/Methods and will draw from them when needed.

I love to teach. I have experience with 5-50 years old and, if pressed, could not name a favorite group. I believe that everyone can learn; some of us just process information in different ways. As a tutor it is my job to discover how a student processes information and adapt my lesson to accommodate them. Learning can be both fun and serious, as long as it is productive.
As part of my lifelong love of learning and teaching, I began tutoring when I was just fourteen years old. While in high school, I usually tutored math (mostly algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) and general science. Once I moved to college, I began to work with middle school as well as high school students again in mostly math and science. However, I have a BA in politics and history; therefore I am extremely confident in many liberal arts subjects. I have also earned an MBA which helped to hone my grammatical a ... read more

"We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself." (Lloyd Alexander, 1924) I like this quote because I believe that every student has the skills to learn any subject through practice and hard work. Every student learns differently and I will help your student reach their full academic potential by catering to their specific learning needs and styles. I will be a support system for your learner to help them with all of their academic needs. Ambition and motivation are two strengths I want my learners to develop and they will accomplish this by actively participating in their own learning. ~Strive for the impossible and be extraordinary.

Both my education and work experience lend themselves to this position as reading tutor. In school, I worked with all ages in relation to my museum studies coursework, to better understand historic events, places, eras, and people. In designing museum programming and educational initiatives, I worked with young children up to senior adults in the process. My university-level history and women's studies background has exposed me to a wide range of contextual information, and I am eager to utilize this while helping others become more literate.
As a university-level professor, I understand that only about 20% of my students will prosper from a strictly lecture-style course. I have explored other means of learning with my students by encouraging them to read and interpret primary sources (sources written or objects used/produced by historical agents), discuss what they've learned in c ... read more

During the last several years, I have worked in the education field in a variety of ways. I have served as a full time teacher and a substitute teacher. My passion is learning and my hope is to inspire in my students a genuine love of learning and to help them gain the skills necessary to become lifelong, independent learners. I believe all children can learn in an atmosphere that is encouraging, supportive and structured in such a way as to challenge without discouraging. I believe in authentic learning and in teaching through discovery. I have acquired many different techniques and tools over the years and have learned that there is no one style of teaching that fits all. One reason I enjoy tutoring is that I can take the time to truly know the student and to help them discover which tools work best for them. I strive to make a difference in each of my student's lives.
I have been actively involved in the field of education for 26 years as a high school English teacher, an elementary reading teacher, and as a school librarian. ... read more

I do not believe in hierarchy. I think the teacher-student or tutor-student relationship should be one of equal footing and mutual discovery. This means asking questions together and seeking out the fundamental answers to questions. I think all children and adults deserve a place to learn about themselves and the world around them where they are free to ask any question and challenge any assumption. This does not mean I am a push over and cannot create structure in a lesson. I just strive to do it in a way that does not discourage creativity and authentic discovery about themselves and the world.
I attended college at three different schools, on athletic scholarship in two of them. I earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Philosophy and BA in Political Science. After graduating I spent one semester teaching sciences at an outdoor based alternative middle and elementary school just ... read more
