I do not consider myself a teacher but a helper. In my experience, the Socratic method in which I pose probing questions that unlock the student's knowledge is the strongest approach. A student's retention of the material is strongest when the student can teach it, and that's what I aim for. I break down any material the student doesn't understand into terms that are easier to comprehend. Preparedness is expected on the part of the student. I am not a substitute for independent study, and the sessions should not consist of doing homework. I am a resource best used when students have an understanding of what they do need help with.

All things good to know are difficult to learn!

I have always been a math person, even as a little kid. I am currently attending Francis Marion University and double majoring in Mathematics and Finance. In the spring of 2014 I will be taking Calculus III and Multivariable Calculus. I tutor my friends and they love the way I teach compared to their professors or instructors. If I do not initially know how to solve a problem, it will take me a few minutes to learn it, provided that there are notes available. I have also been into music for the past 9 years. I know how to play the piano and any percussion instrument.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a passion for education and learning. I have always excelled in mathematics from elementary to collegiate levels. I LOVE math. I love to do math and I love to teach math. I was even on a math competition team in middle school. I have a strong statistical background from my Psychology studies and have taught Middle Grades Math to 8th graders. I taught Standard 8 Plus and Algebra 1 to 8th grade students in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system. I tutor based on the individual's learning needs. I have encountered some that were visual learners ad everything had to be drawn/written out. I have also tutored students that can have me explain it and they grasp it easily. My teaching style changes according to the needs of the student because not every one learns the same. I do believe Accounting is a complex field and the student has to have an interest in the field to truly be successful in retaining what they are taught.
While earning my Masters in Accounting, I voluntarily tutored Undergrad students that were earning their Associates or Bachelors in Accounting. The students were enrolled in the local community college (Central Carolina Tech) as well as the University of South Carolina.
