My comments on tutoring Reading : We have Certified Teachers and Degreed Tutors who specialize in each subject or grade level. Call us to ask about each individual tutor and their credentials. Some of our Certified Teachers are Certified in all subjects of Elementary specifically that includes this.

Each Certified teacher has the ability and skills to individualize the teaching style, based on the child's learning style. Due to this, we offer for the teacher or tutor to do an assessment on the first session at the same fee as the tutorials. Once they do this, they are required to teach or tutor in the style fit to your child's learning and other skills for their potential and to help them reach their academic goals.

My original degree was in English with a minor in Spanish. I received my teaching certification in 1979 in Secondary English/Spanish. I taught adult ESL part time for 2 years in the evenings. After a taste in this field, I began teaching in ESL and have taught 9 years in public schools. With one school district I also had a class helping students with the English part of the TAAS test. During the rest of my career I taught Spanish which was also 9 years.
I believe the first thing you need to do is to find out what the student needs help with. At times I have used music, poetry, or computer programs to get the students attention. Repetition is very helpful and note cards are good for memorization. Taking notes is a good way for the student to stay focused. A little comedy helps too to help students to remember. As a person who holds both a BA and MA in English, each with concentrations in writing (creative and technical, respectively), I am qualified to, and have for several years, tutored English language studies skills, including composition, grammar, punctuation, and reading comprehesion, to students from the third grade through college. I have also taught English composition at the college level. A Little Bit About Me...

I have 16 years teaching elementary grades 1 through 3. During this time I taught Compensatory Education for 2 years in 1st grade, 4 years in 2nd grade and 1 year in third grade. In the Compensatory Education classes I would receive the poorest readers and worked with them throughout the school year. The 3rd grade Comp-Ed class all started as poor readers and ended the year by all passing the reading portion of the Texas TAAS test. I had a 1st grade class for 5 years and 2nd grade for 4 years. I also taught in Italy DoD Schools, taught basic skills to American GIs overseas, and I am currently a sustitute teacher for both Bastrop and Elgin ISDs. I have over 120 in-service hours, have been substitute of the year for schools in each district.

I taught all subjects for adult learners preparing for the GED tests through Region IX Education Services Center's Adult Education program for 4 years in the evenings. I also taught English as a Second Language to adults. I am an Adult reading tutor for adults who could not read. I taught mathematics, vocabulary and biology to high school graduates preparing to take the nursing entrance exam at Vernon College. I also taught basic computer classes in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite for Vernon College's Wichita Falls campus for 4 years. I had one or two evening classes each semester.
