Then I try to relate what they are learning to a skill they have already mastered. I believe students need to know the practical applications for what they are learning. Many of the practical applications come from my financial and woodworking background. When a student works through examples, discussing how concepts apply, that application of the concept helps to solidify the knowledge. I alter how I teach depending on what my students need and what the resources are. I do use a constructivist teaching style to do this. As a teacher or tutor it is very important to realize that everybody learns differently. Because of this you have to strive to find the way your student learns and utilize creative ways to make sure the student understands what you are teaching to them.
