A Little Bit About Me...

I work well with children of all ages and am considerably patient, easygoing, although stern as well with my students. My teaching style consists of visual illustrations mixed with a lecture or teaching session. Through my experiences at USD I have determined that the amalgamation of these two styles produce more stimulating teachings as well as information retention being maximized as well. I typically work off of a performance based reward system since it appears to me that children are motivated by praise and reward in order to push them to do better on each successive obstacle they encounter in the classroom

I have earned two Associates Degrees in my native Mexico, in the city of Merida. I came to the USA in 1978 and continued my studies in Elementary Education, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of the English language. I have 4 years of experience substituting as an ESL teacher as well as teaching the 4 High School levels of Spanish in the South Sioux City Community School District, During the past 12 years I have also tutored individual High School students in the Spanish language.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy children and trying to teach them new and exciting things. At times, I understand that it requires patience to work with children, but if you are able to do that then chances of success are much more likely. I believe that everything we teach to these children will be needed sooner or later in life, and that the understanding of this knowledge will further improve their lives. I spent a year overseas right out of high school tutoring my cousins. Later, after college, I volunteered to teach Spanish at a "homeschool" in Oregon for 3 months, then spent 6 months teaching Spanish then guitar at Lane Community College. I was assistant teacher for 2 years at a Christian preschool in Kennewick, WA. I have taught private lessons for 4 or 5 years altogether in the various places I have lived, teaching piano, guitar, voice and Spanish. Once I even taught English as a second language for a while. I enjoyed teaching basic music theory and how to play piano by ear to a blind student once. He made me proud at the recital.
