A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a full-time (and quite busy) professional tutor for the past five years. I currently work as an independent tutor through The Tutor Connection and Wyzant, as well as my personal tutoring service. While living in California in 2007, I was employed by the San Diego Board of Education as a tutor for the AVID program, a group style tutoring initiative to assist high school students with difficulties and increase their motivation to learn. Upon my return to Knoxville, before becoming a full-time private tutor, I tutored U.T. student athletes as an employee of the University of Tennessee. When I was in grammar school, high school, and college, I regularly tutored my friends in areas they had difficulty with.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always felt compelled to help others achieve their dreams. I graduated with a bachelor's in psychology and began working at a residential alcohol and drug treatment facility for adolescents. There I assisted the education personnel in tutoring our clients. I helped our kids with math, science, and English, at all levels of education. My work experience in this position and in the positions that I was promoted to enhanced my writing skills, interpersonal relationships, and attention to detail.
My teaching style is specific to the individual child and their needs. When I worked at the residential center, I had to teach alcohol and drug awareness classes. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe learning is about confidence. I have seen numerous students doing poorly in courses because they were convinced that they were not capable of learning the subject matter. Small successes help to build confidence in order to move on to the subsequent challenges. I believe in starting with the basics, and making sure that the students truly grasps the subject matter before moving to more difficult concepts. Often, it takes several different approaches before a student is able to understand the concept. I believe that with patience, I can find the right approach and help most students perform at a higher level.
