A Little Bit About Me...

I have an associate degree in Digital Media and a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design. I have recently graduated from my BS program from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a 3.44 GPA. I have spent the last eight years in school working in graphic design. I am familiar with the Adobe family of products. Photoshop is my first love. I am also working on learning Art Rage as well.
I am a hands on teacher and believe in using programs like Jing to share computer screens so that students can see exactly how or where something is and how to accomplish their end goals.

I believe that all children are unique and gifted in some way. I truly prefer to work with them one-on-one. Each child learns in a manner that is a challege to meet and I welcome this challenge and often find that I learn as much from them as they might from me. A Little Bit About Me...

I love children and I love teaching children. I teach using a variety of methods. I have learned that children have different ways of learning. Some children are visual learners so I used plenty of visual aids when teaching these children. Some children are kinetic learners so I made sure that I used manipulatives when teaching these children. I believe that all children have a "best way" to learn. I determine what that way is, and then I taylor the way I teach to that way. I love seeing a child light up when they "get it". I love learning and I want to pass that love on to others.
As a parent concerned about the condition of the public school system we decided to homeschool our last two children. I am a very energetic and interactive teacher, moving around the classroom, challenging students with questions, providing many examples and anecdotes to illustrate teaching points. I always try to teach inductively--leading the student to discover the answer on their own, and I encourage them to express their own original thoughts. I use a multisensory approach to teaching, using audio-visual resources and the internet whenever possible. I really enjoy leading students to see things from "out of the box" perspectives, to find relationships between seemingly unrelated things, and to synthesize novel insights by doing so. I believe the greatest thing about knowledge is the ability to share it. I love to learn, but that is only the first step. The true reward comes in being able to impart that knowledge of someone else. However, each person learns differently. Whether in a classroom setting or one-on-one tutoring, it is imperative that the teacher learn how each student learns. This allows them to teach in a manner that produces the greatest results in students.
