My comments on tutoring Spanish : I´m a Spaniard girl living in Sonoma County for 2 months now. I love Spanish and I could help students or people interested in learning. I studied Telecommunications in Spain for 3 years, but my true passion is languages in general.

I have never taught people to speak Spanish, but I have clear ideas how to teach, where to begin, cos is how I learned English, and I think is working great. In my high school I used to study English, Latin, Greek and Catalonian (one language we speak in the east of the peninsula which I could speak and write too). English has been always my fave language and I began so young to be interested in everything about English.

According to the need of the student, some students are fast learning, some are slow, this is very important taking in consideration because my philosophy is that "Everybody is able to learn", we just have different learning styles.

Many of my previous jobs have surrounded helping others. Whether that was through tutoring and teaching or customer service. Growing up I also tutored my younger sister and my cousin who has a learning disability. I have always been passionate about helping others, especially through education. I have a diverse field of experience. I received a dual B.A. in Linguistics and Anthropology in 2006. This allows me to understand language tutoring at a deeper level than most tutors. This foundation has been augmented by 5 years of teaching experience in ESOL, History, Academic Writing, and Professional interview training which I have conducted all over the world. In 2009, I received my MA in applied linguistics. This degree worked as a capstone to perfect my teaching style in regards to ESL.
I try to foster independent learners. If the pupil is perpetually dependent on the teacher, then nothing is gained- money and efforts are wasted. My techniques push students to acquire the skills and tools they need on their own. Everyone can aspire to this level of sucess if they try. I look forward to making a difference in your life, with your help.

I believe that education should be tailored to the needs, abilities, and learning styles of each student. I believe in consistent positive reinforcement and praise, and in tracking and measuring skills so that students have evidence of their progress. I hope to help students discover the intrinsic rewards of learning, but respect the joy and relief students feel when their goal is passing a difficult subject for promotion.
As a lifelong learner, I'm always motivated by students who have a curiosity for improving their own skills. I have a BA in liberal arts from Vassar College and a MS in Education from Queens College, which I earned through the full-time work/part-time study New York City Teaching Fellowship. I am fluent in Spanish, conversant in Japanese and French, and am always excited about learning more languages. As a special education teacher, I've worked with large classro ... read more

As a ski instructor, I've worked with children aged 3 - 12. Parents frequently praised my patience and ability to remain a calm, controlled and enthusiastic teacher. I believe in maintaining open lines of communication and that a good teacher must always remain receptive to his student's needs and interests. Students should have an interest in the subject and learning should follow from their character. Often times, we are overwhelmed by the expectations put upon us and we need only see our accomplishments within a perspective that incorporates our progress since we've begun.
Throughout my education at UCLA, I took an avid and broad interest in all subjects, and finally chose to complement a degree in International Development with a smattering of engineering physics and multi-variable calculus. My work and extra-curricular experience has been broad and challenging. I've researched ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

It is my goal to provide support for all students striving to learn the academic, social, and emotional skills needed to become lifelong learners. I believe that the teacher and the curriculum must inspire the passion and power to make positive choices throughout life; education is the one and only key to reaching these goals and I consider it my job to make sure each student is prepared not just to meet them, but to exceed them.
I have spent over ten years in the classroom teaching English Comprehension, Literature, Writing and Spelling to students in middle school. I have also worked extensively with struggling readers grades 4-12, and with English Language Learners. I have supervised summer school programs, led peer-tutoring groups, and run a school newspaper. My bachelor's degree in English serves as an example for the effort and time committed to education and a service to academia. I learned literary skills concerning literary forms: folklore, poetry, short story, photography, personal essay, analytical essay. My two years of high school Spanish, one year of College French, and completion of breadth college requirements provide a slight ability for me to tutor Spanish and French language, computer navigation, basic algebraic math, and basic social studies. During the last three years I tutored ESL, reading, and Astronomy at Chaffey College, overlooked K-12 after-school P.E. programs with the Boys and Girls Club, and facilitated a course in wheelchair basketball and disability at UC Berkeley.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a first generation college graduate from Saint Mary's College of CA with a degree in Sociology/Anthropology which has allowed me to work with a variety of age groups in different socioeconomic backgrounds. I have extensive experience in writing research reports and tutoring experience in a variety of subjects from K-12.
I love making a difference in a child's life, whether it is academic or to get them organized to be more successful in the long run. I feel that I am patient and lack judgment on the child as each child is different and learns in different ways. After struggling with my academic career, I feel that my best way of helping the child is help them since I did not always have the resources available to succeed. I want them to feel that they can do anything.
