I am currently in my first year teaching in Indianapolis. I am a licensed Biology teacher although I have a strong math and science background. I would love to have an opportunity to work with students on a one-on-one basis. I believe that students need guidance and structure in order to reach their highest potential. In the classroom, instruction can only be differentiated so much. Individual tutoring would allow me the chance to really meet a student at their level and understand their learning style.

I love teaching all ages and skill levels. I adjust my teaching style to the individual - some people are visual learners or oral learners or hands-on learners. I teach by example and try to encourage my students to understand "why" rather than just "how." I began college as an engineering major, so I have background in advanced mathematics and physics. I went on to change my major to psychology where I gained knowlege of social and behavioral sciences, as well as research technologies and statistical analysis. Since graduating college with a B.A. in psychology, I have worked as a psychology researcher, accounting assistant, and in 3 different roles for an international pharmaceutical company. I have worked with youth all my life. I managed youth services at a library and was responsible for all programming and special events for youth of all ages as well as programs for struggling, beginning readers and homework assistance in the afternoons. I worked with many schools providing literacy-based activities in their classrooms. As part of my master's course work in elementary education, I studied child development, mathematics, social studies, science and language arts instruction. I have taught at the university level for 4 years and tutored all ages of children and adults for 3 years. The subjects that I have tutored or taught include English, mathematics, and the social sciences (economics, government and history). My MA in International Relations has allowed me to teach political science and writing composition at the university level. In college, I received certifications in teaching English as a Second Language, and I have taught English to foreign students at the university level. As a mathematics minor in college, I also have experience in tutoring mathematics (particularly algebra and geometry) at the college-prep level. Finally, I can also tutor in SAT preparation.
