I have an extensive teaching career in the field of Biology that includes different educational levels. I am currently teaching Biology courses at college level. As a complement of my experience, and since all my education was gotten in a Spanish-speaking country, I am perfectly fluent in Spanish language. I authored and coauthored scientific publications and books written in Spanish language as well. Learning goes much deeper than memorizing then eventually forgetting. Learning comes from conceptual understanding of material, building one concept on top of another. I believe that every student has the capacity to learn anything, given they have the basic fundamentals. I prefer to teach using a Socratic method approach, (a means of learning in which the student figures out concepts on their own, with the simple aid of questions). If I do notice a student does not understand a concept in the way I am describing, I try to provide a different means to convey the message. I use various teaching styles that coincide with different learning styles, i.e. tactile, auditory, and visual learning styles, and can use each effectively. My tutoring experience isn't really too official. I mostly just help people with College Algebra around the dorms. I am pretty good with teaching and helping with math, and could probably do it at a High School level. Not actually having a BS probably will just limit me to high school tutoring. With the people skills I have developed working as an Resident Assistant I know I can be effective in helping high school students in math, biology, french, and chemistry. I really like to help people in general, that's the reason why I became a Resident Assistant. As a Resident Assistant I have aided many students with problems they may have in their first year of college, including tutoring them in subjects i am proficient in. I have earned a bachelors degree in Psychology, passed the CBEST, and have about four years of work experience as a tutor. I tutored students, ranging from grades K-12, in various subjects, but mainly in Mathematics and Language Arts/Reading. Also, in a previous position, I managed after-school tutoring programs for both elementary and junior high schools at the school site, in-home, and public location/library.
