During these 4 years, I studied abroad for two summers in Germany, Berlin and Augsburg respectively. After I graduated, I received a Fulbright scholarship, which allowed me to live in Germany and teach English to German students for 1 year.

My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups. A Little Bit About Me...

Making the learning session interactive makes a world of difference in teaching a language, and I find that incorporating play-acting into a learning session excites and motivates the student. Using the list of vocabulary words and rules of grammer the student is currently in the process of learning, I like to create a scenario with the student, stand up and walk away from the table, and pretend that we are actually at the dentist, the grocery store, etc. I also like to use topics that relate to the student's age and environment, thereby make the language 'real' to them.
I tutored fellow students regularly in Spanish, French, and German all 4 years of college, as I studied in Europe and Mexico, and was placed in advanced college levels my first semester in college.
