I have a relaxed teaching style that makes my students feel comfortable and interested in learning. I believe I transfer my passion for my subject to my students. I am able to draw on my extensive work and “real-world” experience, which students seem to appreciate. I have an informal manner, yet I expect much of my students. I expect them to do the work required and to have good attendance at the teaching sessions. I teach best through “hands-on” methods, allowing students to learn by doing.
I have worked most of my adult life in education or journalism, and I was able to combine my two passions as a journalism professor at the college level for several years. I have been a high school teacher of Latin and ancient Greek, for three school years, and I spent an additional school year as a high school librarian and study skills course teacher. I also have a year of college Latin instruction experience, and a year as a TA for an ancient history professor. Over the years, I have had at least three permanent clients as a tutor, working with ancient Greek, Latin, and German, and I have done other ad hoc tutoring and professional translation work.
