I am a retired special ed teacher. I worked with Learning Disabled, Emotionally Impaired, Cognitively Impaired, and Austistic students primarily in the high school. I was an Assistant Principal in a middle school for four years, and a teacher consultant for 30 years. In my role as a teacher consultant, I tutored students primarily in the high school. For the past 30 years, I have worked with special needs students. I believe that students learn at their educational level. The problem with education today, is that students are often in classrooms that stress learning at their frustration level. Many students are in general ed settings, but are forced to use materials that they do not fully understand. I have been told that my classroom does not need a teacher's desk. This is probably due to my high energy, fact paced teaching style. I love using music and technology to get the students interested. I also like to relate English to their lives and show them how they need it. Yes you may walk past my classroom and hear rap music but, that is strictly to show the students how tools of education are used in their everyday lives.
