I have 31 years of teaching both learning disabled and cognitively disabled children. I have been trained extensively in working with youngsters who are dyslexic and dyscalculic ( math disabilities). In addition I have taught children who were on the spectrum, including those with Aspergers. I am proficient at assessing a child's strengths and weaknesses and developing a learning program which will build upon strengths in order to address underlying weaknesses.
I believe that every child is able to learn and that all have the right to achieve their maximum potential. I am structured in my approach but strive to listen to the child's opinions. In the past, my classroom rules were based upon Jim Fay's Love and Logic; essentially, I will treat you with respect, and feel free to do anything that does not cause a problem for anyone else.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I believed strongly in cooperative learning where peers are taught to teach each other. I enjoy one on one teaching where I can focus on a students' needs much easier. I believe that hands on experiences are beneficial to all students. Each child learns differently and I like to focus on and teach according to their learning style.
I graduated from UW Oshkosh with a BS degree in Elementary Education and English. I have been a teacher for 18 years. I have taught all subjects to PreK, second and third grades. I have also worked with At risk high school students. I am currently a professional caregiver and activity aide in a group home with individuals who have physical and cognitive disabilities.

I have experience with assistance in teaching yoga, childcare, and with those who have mental disabilities. I am a student at University of Wisconsin Fox Valley, receiving my Associate Degree of Arts & Science at the end of May 2011. I have been struggling to pay for school to further my education because it's been all on my own. I work two part-time as a florist and own my own cleaning business. I am working towards my goal of counseling and therapy in yoga for those who struggle with the balance of life.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very hands on teacher. I like to make learning fun and not boring. I know that all children have the ability to learn have a special education minor to help me teach ALL students. I like to use different approaches for each student as they all learn in different ways. I also firmly believe that each student needs to be met where they are at and taught from that point. Teaching takes patience. I believe children need to be met where they are and taught according to their own talents and strengths. I have experience working with children who do not fit into mainstream classrooms. I have patience. I have energy. I have a great interest in discovering how each child learns best and then working with them based on those abilities.
