Patients is a amazing thing to have when trying to teach. Many students learn at a different pace and I feel that finding that pace for every student is important. If you try to cram or learn something to quickly it only become heartache and bad grades.
In College I would form groups to try and study for upcoming test or exams. Doing this it really helped me to learn what I was studying and how other people learn as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

While teaching high school students and adults I have helped many struggling learners. One of my main goals in all interactions with students I strive to build their confidence. I like to be a person my students can trust who they also understand has high expectations for them. My classroom management is built around responsibility and accountability, and humor.
I graduated with a BS in history in 1996. After nearly seven years working for a large communications corporation I returned to college to get my teaching credentials. I like teaching by example -- that is, a given example of a real world problem that correlates with the subject at hand. I like to first define the objective desired, then work systematically toward achieving every step along the way with the tools at my disposal.
As a grad assistant in college, I worked for two years teaching students business software programs in a class room environment. I have also been a team leader in an engineering firm (Parsons Brinckerhoff) in which I liased constantly with both the public and field representatives.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience is as broad as it is varied. When I taught at Sylvan, I taught every course they needed me to. When I taught professionally, I taught teams of scientists and then instructional designers. I'm comfortable with all ages and backgrounds.
Scaffolding and positive reinforcement describes my teaching style; combined with a healthy dose of humor and individual, associative modeling. Learning should be fun and challenging. Busy work doesn't have to take such a negative connotation.
