A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and learning. I grew up going to Montessori schools and truly believe that everyone is capable of learning its just finding the right way to teach that person--not all students can be boxed into a simple blanket method of teaching. I was employed by the Interior Design department at FSU to teach undergraduate courses, being an instructor of record for the inital course for the department, Design Fundamentals. I have a passion for teaching and learning- it runs in the family as my husband is a middle school science and math teacher. Our parents are lifelong edcuators in Wakulla County. Now that I have earned my Master's degree I would like to continue that family tradition.
I believe that while students may forget specifics of what they are learning, they will never forget how teachers make them feel. I began teaching at Shepard Academy. I taught Social Studies to middle and high school students. Shepard was a small private school specializing in meeting the needs of students who had a variety of learning challenges. Many were diagnosed with ADHD or ADD. After a three year leave during which I stayed home with my children, I began teaching at Tallavana Christian School. Again I taught middle and high school students, but I covered 6th grade math and reading in addition to history and geography. During my third year they needed someone to teach high school English, so I taught 10-12 grade literature and grammar, as well as semester courses in speech and drama, home economics, and creative writing.

A Little Bit About Me...

After teaching preschool age children for 5 years, I returned to school to pursue a BS in secondary Education with a concentration in political science. I graduated in 2007 after 3 years at Georgia Southern University. In 2008, my family and I moved to Wakulla County, FL. Here I began teaching 3rd and 4th grade at Wakulla Christian School. This year I moved into the 5th grade teacher position at WCS.
I enjoy working with children of all ages and am available for all subjects. My focus is teaching through discovery; whether by observation, research, or builiding upon previous knowledge. I believe all children need nurturing in academics and the biggest hurdle many face is self-confidence (or the lack of).
