A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that learning is ongoing throughout life, and that we all differ in our learning styles. I like to present a topic so that it is fun, usually with tactile work using math manipulatives, or flash cards, props, and games that teach conceptual thinking skills, and methods of learning using visuals, as well as auditory cues.
I have been educating people since 1987. I began in music education, which I taught successfully for 9 years, and also taught piano lessons. I then worked in special education for 1 year as an educational technician, where I tutored math, reading, and students with severe disabilities. I have been tutoring for 17 years for all ages and levels. I have tutored both in and out of an academic setting, both in schools and at the students home. I am highly qualified to tutor all ages and levels of math, science, english, english language, spanish, writing and SAT prep.
My teaching style is student centered based upon their individual learning styles. I am a holistic grader who is able to reach and teach even the most difficult student, such as those who have acquired "learned helplessness". I have always tutored friends and peers in mathematics. I spent the last year helping one of my good friends learn calculus and have volunteered as a tutor at Falmouth High School in Falmouth, Maine in order to help students learn algebra. The link that led me to this application described a position as an algebra tutor, something I would be very willing to do part-time.
I am a college student who has taken calculus, calculus II, and multi-variable calculus. I have recieved A's in all of these classes and consider myself to be very capable of teaching high school level mathematics.
