My comments on tutoring Japanese : I studied for a month in Osaka, Japan, to augment my university Japanese classes. Native speakers certify that my pronunciation is extremely native-like

I employ the Socratic method of asking lots and lots of questions. I see a tutorial as not a time for a student to soak up information, but to engage the mind and use the tools he has already been given. Of course, if a student truly doesn't know something crucial, I will tell him. I always try to make my instruction at least a little bit funny, and to connect the material to the student's interests, because these factors are known to enhance learning.
I have five years' experience as a writing tutor at my university, during which I wrote and presented papers at multiple regional conferences for university writing tutors. I rose to become one of the most respected and requested tutors out of my peers. I many credit hours of pedagogy and teaching methodology classes, both for Teaching ESL and Latin, and a semester of student teaching under my belt.

My comments on tutoring Japanese : Intermediate-Advanced level

I am a student of applied linguistics and Italian language who has had multiple (7+) semesters of college level Russian, multiple semesters of Italian and am self taught in Japanese. Although I am a university student at Youngstown State University, I am at an Intermediate-Advanced level in Italian as well as being at an Intermediate-Advanced level in Japanese. During the summer of 2012 (from March to August) I studied abroad in Nagasaki, Japan in order to improve my Japanese language competency.

I started my education in Japanese language at Stow-Munroe Falls High School (Stow, OH) and continued studying it at the University of Mount Union (Alliance, OH). While studying at Mount Union, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Nagasaki, Japan. During my final year as an undergrad, I did a multimedia timeline project on the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, which included ten newspaper article translations from Japanese to English that were included in the project.
