A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is straightforward - proceed from the simple to the complex. It appears most subjects require this approach. I find it both helpful and important to try and relate situations encountered in day-to-day life to the specific subject problems.
I earned a BS in Aeronautics and have completed some graduate work in aerodynamics and meteorology. In addition to having given approximately 3000 hours of instruction in aviation subjects, I have authored several textbooks on aircraft design and construction. I've been both a research pilot and a captain on a cargo airline.

A Little Bit About Me...

One of the most interesting aspects of teaching is how different people process information. Oft times it is difficult to find a teaching style or method that can be equally useful to people of different learning types. I have found that teaching methods common to experiential educators, common practice in such disciplines as SCUBA diving, First Aid/CPR, Martial Arts, Art, etc., can be successfully applied to virtually any academic discipline. The process leads the student to the discovery of concepts based on practical demonstrations by the educator with as much repetition as necessary for the student to achieve comfortable mastery.

How do I summarize teaching in my life? I guess the best way to explain my teaching experience is to tell you a story. As a young girl I wanted to be a teacher. Because of my love of learning I taught all my siblings how to read. I know it is pretty funny but it is a true story. That led to my doing teaching seminars, which led to consulting, which led to training, which led to my working with individuals as a life coach. For example, when teaching math, I focus on building conceptual understanding rather than on plugging numbers into a formula.
